Job Interviews
If you read the section on Psychometric Tests, you will have read that the job interview is the least objective method of recruitment. Nevertheless, it is a very important element of the recruitment process and it is therefore essential that you prepare properly for it.
Preparation
Know how to get to your interview and allow more time than is necessary. Plan to be early rather than on time. If you plan to be on time, you plan to be late!
Always research the company and the job you are being considered for.
Dress appropriately – always looks smart.
If you are unable to attend for whatever reason, make sure that you call to cancel in good time. Remember, everyone’s time is very precious.
Interview techniques vary considerably – some are very formal, some may seem unfriendly. Try not to be put off.
Some of the questions you may get asked:
- Tell me about yourself
- What did you enjoy most whilst at University?
- What did you least like?
- Tell me about some of your successes What is your biggest achievement to date?
- What motivates you?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
- Why do you want this job?
- Why should we employ you?
- Tell me about some of your group exercises whilst at University.
- What was your role?
- What did the group achieve?
- What were some of the challenges you had to overcome?
- How did you overcome them? What did you learn from the experience?
- What are your salary expectations?
Do you have any questions? If you ask questions, be selective, be sensible and don’t just ask about salary?
